I started reacHIRE because a career break should not be a career breaker. I know because I took a break. I wasn’t planning on it and I didn’t expect it. One minute I was driving my career and the next I was swerving on a highway to avoid a collision that would profoundly affect my family and force my teen-age daughter to miss a year of high school.
The accident was incredibly painful - both physically and mentally. Her recovery became my #1 priority and focus. During the time I was home with my family, I found myself meeting other women who were also on a break. The women trying to return to their careers were facing significant obstacles. Their skills were eclipsed by changes in the marketplace and advances in technology; their references were out of date; and their professional confidence had eroded despite their significant past career achievements.
From listening to their stories, I knew that when I returned to work, I would return to something different. I had previously started two companies and successfully exited them, and now I had found the next chapter in the recurring theme of my career - building companies that empower young girls and women at different stages of their lives.
